Russia is more than you see in the news

I started teaching Russian at the very end of the Cold War. My parents had escaped the strict Communist regime, but still maintained the wonderful culture that the country had and has, and I was determined to share this culture with my students. We traveled there together, hosted Russian students and their teachers, and together discovered that a country is so much more than its leaders, its politics, and what you see in the news. The people are the ones that will survive, and their culture will live on, whether they are living in the country or not.
