My name is Julie Steimel Mamunes. I am originally from Takoma Park, Md . My parents were from the former Soviet Union, so my sisters and I grew up speaking fluent Russian. I completed studies in Russian at the University of Maryland and at Moscow State University. I am and was a Prince George's County Public School teacher, where I have taught Russian at the High School level for over 25 years. I have also taught Russian in AA county and Russian Immersion at Baltimore International Academy.

My belief in learning a language is that it should be both a challenge and enjoyable at the same time. The goal is fluency---in speaking, but also in reading and writing. My approach is project Based Learning, reading literary passages, singing Russian songs and learning new words and grammar in context. I bring to the class over 4 decades of language teaching experience all at the middle and high school levels in the state of Maryland. I believe that through the study of the culture of Russia and through the diversity of its population global understanding can occur.
